Spring largemouth bass on Castaic Swimbaits

Conditions log

Time frame: Early Spring
Structure: Deep Docks
Depth: 10' - 25'

Tackle

Rod: Setyr 7' Medium Crank
Reel: Quantum Baitcast
Line: 10 lb Trilene Flourocarbon
Leader: none
Lure: Castaic Swimbaits

Technique

Early springtime bass fishing can produce some of the biggest fish of the year. As the temperature increases and the water starts to warm up, bass will move out of deeper water into their staging areas. Docks provide excellent cover as well as a perfect ambush point for feeding bass during pre-spawn. Ideal docks, or cover, at this pre-spawn time to target fall into the center of the percentage triangle. Once again, make sure to make multiple casts on either sides of the structure.

Final Notes

When fishing with swimbaits it is important to slow down your presentation. The key is to make that bait appear as natural as possible. Many times a bass will attack the bait multiple times before they hook up. Keep a steady retrieve and do not set the hook until you feel the weight of the fish.
